Journal Entry #2

The subculture I want to study is the Lutherans. Lutherans believe in Lutheranism which is a branch of Christianity. They split from the church because of justification, which is something I’m still trying to figure out. Music plays a big part in their services; some will have a chorus with bells. They are currently sixty million plus member in the Lutheran church.
I was born catholic, but I rarely went to church so I don’t know a lot about a traditional church service. I have been atheist for almost a year now, but I am always open-minded when someone tries to put some faith in my life. This is the reason I want to study the Lutherans. Also, if I were to choose Catholics that would be too broad, so I narrowed it to Lutherans.
This fits group fits all the requirements; I know of a nearby Lutheran church, their religion interest me, I can research them online, and finally I am not a member. They also have an identity as a group. They have rituals that are different from other religious groups. They would also likely have an artifact that they share. The only one I can’t see is language; I can’t see how they would have their own to tell things except that for them calling God something unique to their group.
So this is my group of people I want to observe; right now I’m just a little nervous knowing that I will need to actually attend one of their church meetings. But I will go in their unbiased and open-minded to what I hear and hopefully enjoy this little adventure.

Journal Entry 1

My topic for my essay will be on my cousin’s eighteenth birthday. What we did for his birthday was to get on a cruise to the Bahamas. This weekend trip with most of my family is filled with tons of different memories. The big thing that happened during this trip was a Jet Ski accident that happened when we were on the island. It’s because of this crash that I want to write the essay on it. I think it would be great to find some sort of change that happened to me because of this accident. Everyone was at fault for the crash, everyone felt guilty for what happened. Thankfully the only real injure was on my just turned eighteen cousin who fractured his leg. He had to spend the rest of the trip on a wheelchair. This somewhat ruined the trip but since this was the first time most of us have been on a cruise ship it was still exciting.

Also during this trip we meet new people, saw a great island, and had tons of fun. So I’m probably going to write about this trip as a whole and not focus greatly on one part because I can’t really remember very thing that happened. So I would have to say that the only real question I have for this essay is; how did this whole experience change me into who I am today?

Hello World

Hello, I'm Luis Nogueira and I am taking Freshman Comp 1101 at Valencia. I am from Queens, New York but I moved to Florida when I was six. I want to major in Computer Science which is programming. What I want to end up doing is making Video Games because I'm a huge Gamer.

I'm taking Freshman Comp 1 because it is a requirement but I am a horrific writer so I would definitely like to improve that. I guess the main reason I hate to write is that I absolutely suck at spelling. I'm a math guy so I tend to enjoy those classes better then English. Since the 5th grade I excelled in Math, at the same thing ignoring my duties to read such book.

The only writing I do is for school, and if possible I try to make the topic of the paper relate to my hobbies. I have writing paper's on the gaming industry, violence in games, and whenever or not games are educational. I also wrote some fiction stories based on some gaming experiences. If I write about things I know about, such as computers, pop culture, or gaming, that makes writing more enjoyable for me.

I enjoy reading articles from Wired.com, PennyArcade.com, and some other gaming websites. I especially like the articles from Wired because of their views on technology. I don't enjoy reading articles about politics or some real life murder story, which I believe is everything on CNN.com

I have also read, understand and agree to the terms of the course blog.
