The subculture I want to study is the Lutherans. Lutherans believe in Lutheranism which is a branch of Christianity. They split from the church because of justification, which is something I’m still trying to figure out. Music plays a big part in their services; some will have a chorus with bells. They are currently sixty million plus member in the Lutheran church.
I was born catholic, but I rarely went to church so I don’t know a lot about a traditional church service. I have been atheist for almost a year now, but I am always open-minded when someone tries to put some faith in my life. This is the reason I want to study the Lutherans. Also, if I were to choose Catholics that would be too broad, so I narrowed it to Lutherans.
This fits group fits all the requirements; I know of a nearby Lutheran church, their religion interest me, I can research them online, and finally I am not a member. They also have an identity as a group. They have rituals that are different from other religious groups. They would also likely have an artifact that they share. The only one I can’t see is language; I can’t see how they would have their own to tell things except that for them calling God something unique to their group.
So this is my group of people I want to observe; right now I’m just a little nervous knowing that I will need to actually attend one of their church meetings. But I will go in their unbiased and open-minded to what I hear and hopefully enjoy this little adventure.

I think this is an excellent area for observation. Remember to have fun; there is no reason to be nervous.
